AI Tutors Are Coming To Your Kids School

Would you trust AI (artificial intelligence) to teach your kid?

Khan Lab School, a private school in Silicon Valley, is trying it out with an AI-powered tutor named Khanmigo. Created with the help of OpenAI, Khanmigo helps students find answers rather than give them. The system has guardrails that allow educators to monitor student input, while swear words and other concerning content can be flagged.

There is some trepidation that having an AI tutor could teach kids to rely on it too often, but a potential upside is that shy students are asking more questions than what they're typically comfortable with in front of a classroom.

Salman Khan, the founder of Khan Academy, said parents and educators were excited about the tool. But it is not yet clear whether it will prove to be an optimal way of educating children to be critical, thoughtful, and curious.
