Having kids can make you feel disconnected from your body and personal style. Not only has your body changed, but the demands and needs of your lifestyle also require shifts in your wardrobe.

If you’re feeling disconnected and longing for a newfound sense of style, here are some tips on how to get started:

1. Don’t follow trends. Buy what looks right on your body. This may take some trial and error, but your new form can lend itself to some exciting new styles that didn’t work before baby.

2. Find styles you admire of other moms online. With social media, it’s easy to find other moms with similar body types. Start paying attention to what they’re wearing to gain confidence in trying out new outfits you may not normally choose for yourself.

3. Consider a style analysis to figure out what types of clothes look and feel best on you. Most department stores offer free on-site consults. There are also virtual style consultation companies that allow for an assessment from the comfort of your home.

4. Dress up to boost your mood. Dressing up can increase energy, improve motivation and improve your mood. Even if you’re home all day with the kids, throwing on something that feels slightly fancy can do wonders for regaining your sense of style and self.
